Welland’s sports promotion committee is offering a new way for residents to nominate local athletes, coaches and teams with outstanding achievements in their respective sports in the community in 2023.
“In Welland, our tradition of supporting sports excellence runs deep and the 2023 sports awards not only recognize outstanding athletes but also highlight the contributions of those who've elevated our local sports community,” said Amanda Degazio of the city’s community services division in a release.
It said a new electronic nomination form can be found on the city’s website at www.welland.ca/events/SportsAwardsNomination.asp and that honourees will be recognized at the annual sports awards ceremony next April.

“It's more than a ceremony; it's a tribute to the dedicated individuals propelling our community toward athletic greatness. We’re thrilled to offer the submissions electronically and hope to see an increase in worthy nominees,” said Degazio.
The release said the committee invites the community to complete the electronic nomination form with a synopsis of their nominees' achievements.
Awards within the athlete, non-athlete and H.L. Cudney Memorial categories are open to Welland residents or Welland-based teams who excelled in their sport. Categories will be judged based on the nominator's information.
